Coloring as Fast as I Can

A story told by Phil Glynn when we first brought the CBM Assembly Level Qualification Test setup on line:

A man once asked his granddaughter how her day went at Kindergarten.

“There was a fight, Grandpa.”

“Were you in the fight?”

“No, I didn’t want to get sent to the Office.”

“Well, what did you do?”

“I just kept my head down and colored as fast as I could.”

Phil’s point, made in his own very special way, was that things would happen during test that would start arguments all over the program, but we should ignore them and just get the job done. He called it about right, and it was good advice. The phrase has ever since been used by CBM veterans to indicate when we’re under stress. Or bored. Or both.
